What You Should Know About Account-Based Marketing (ABM)

May 7, 2018

account based marketing

Everyone approaches sales in a different way. Some people simply use the customers they have, and work to develop them more fully. Others treat everything that comes in the door (or over the phone or via email) as the same worth, and hope to convert them into the sold column. But there’s another way to think about the sales funnel and about customers, and that’s account-based marketing….

A.I. and It’s Role in Digital Marketing

January 3, 2018

A.I. and It's Role in Digital Marketing

Marketing continues to undergo radical changes. The internet, social media platforms, and email have all changed how we connect, how we respond, and how we engage—both on micro and macro levels. And technology is going to continue to affect the psychology and implementation of marketing, particularly as it relates to artificial intelligence, also known as AI.

At first glance, it would seem that AI wouldn’t have much to do with how we connect. But it turns out that AI tools and best practices can help marketing work more quickly and more efficiently—and that it’s probably already part of many businesses marketing pipelines. In fact, nearly 9 out of 10 companies rely on customer management solutions that incorporate some aspect of AI. And if they’re not using AI, they’re on their way to figuring out how they can engage with it….

The Double Armbar – Wrestling with Sales

April 6, 2017

double armbar - wrestling with sales

When I began wrestling in 4th Grade, I remember one mustachioed coach, showing the team how to run a double arm bar. One of the wrestlers sitting huddled in a Central NJ middle school cafeteria asked “How do you get out of the move?” Coach replied immediately, “Don’t get put in it!” Normally in this situation the person in the bottom position can hope to not get turned, or have a stalemate called. To this day, when asked the counter for a double armbar, I am quick to reply with the same answer and expression my coach gave minus the mustache. You can search the internet and find various videos on how to counter a single armbar, but I haven’t found one yet for a double armbar.

So what does this have to do with sales? Simple for me, there are certain sales situations where a salesman is put in a situation like the double arm that they cannot get out of and are hoping for a fresh start.

Here are some examples of salespeople allowing themselves to get put in a double armbar.…

Take the Shot – Wrestling with Sales

Take the Shot - Wrestling with Sales

As of writing this, the 2017 NCAA Wrestling Championships has just ended so wrestling is top of mind for me right now. Wrestling relates really well to sales, & can give great insight into how to improve your sales process.

Last year I started working with Wrestling Mindset helping them & individual wrestlers reach their full potential. One of the areas where Wrestling Mindset is helpful is getting wrestlers to open up & take more shots. They have looked closely at this situation & figured out the main reasons why wrestlers freeze up. Turns out, it’s not that different from the reasons that salespeople hold back.…

Wrestling with Sales – Take the Ref Out of the Match

October 12, 2016

Wrestling with Sales

Wrestling brought me halfway across the country and away from home to Fargo North Dakota several years in a row.

One of those years, I remember distinctly wearing the red and gold Team NJ singlet. I was wrestling in one of the opening rounds. The score was tied 2-2, and I was wrestling an opponent clearly wearing a blue singlet. I executed a throw and took my opponent from his feet to his back, and we went out of bounds. At that time, this would have been a 3 point move for me. (Freestyle wrestling rules change so much that as of writing this it is a 4 point move)

I looked over at the scoreboard fully expecting the score to be 5 (red) – 2 (blue), but it was the opposite. I looked at the scoreboard again, double checked my singlet color, and perplexed made my way back to the center of the mat.…

Why I’m Loving Medium

Why I'm Loving Medium

I mentioned Medium briefly in a recent blog post (Create Less. Distribute More.), but I’d like to dive a little deeper into this platform. I have been enjoying Medium as both a content creator & consumer, which is not always an easy thing to accomplish.

If you are not already familiar with Medium, it was created by Twitter co-founder Evan Williams & has become a tool used by many writers, businesses, & publications. The best way to understand Medium is to simply sign up & start browsing. It is clean & simple with a great user experience, but there are plenty of other reasons that Medium has won me over……
